About
I am the walrus. Well, that’s not entirely true, but sometimes I am. Sometimes I’m also a Panther, or a Lion, or a Cheetah, or an Owlbear, or a Bear Bear, or a Cowman, or a Night Elf, or a Dorf-man, or a Spacegoat, but most often I am a Tree.
Maerdred the blogger is an IT professional in Hudson, New Hampshire where I work with family and friends in the medical manufacturing industry. I’ve been playing video games since the early 80’s when My dad brought home an Intellivision. I gradually moved up the chain to Nintendo, SNES, PC, Dreamcast, PS2, X-Box, and the 360. I got started in the Warcraft world with Warcraft2 and pretty much just played it for fun along with other RTS games that were out at the time. It took a while for me to get turned on to WoW because of the things I’d heard or read about other MMOs and the time-sink property of these style games. It wasn’t until a friend told me that he and his wife played together that I was willing to give WoW a try. After a month I was hooked.
Two full years after picking up the Game, I had seen my fair share of blogs, and utilized the info they gave out to make myself a better healer. So I decided that while not as numbers-oriented as some, I felt I had something to offer the community. Not sure at the time what it would be, I decided that I’d want the name to have something to do with Druiding, and one of my favorite screenshots became the inspiration for the Blog and its first Banner image. Maerdred, in cat form, stuck in the Tree just outside the mage tower in Stormwind brought to mind the term Treebound Cat. Soon, with my focus moved to a new Druid, a Tauren named Maerrakech, I changed the banner and haven’t gone back, even though I’ve gone back to playing Maerdred, because come on, Tauren Druid in Stormwind tree is just cool!
As of this writing, it’s been four years for Maerdred and I and I’m still having a blast with the game. I’ve gone From noob peon to Guild officer, to Guild Leader and back to peon. I’ve moved from server to server following different groups of friends and different factions. Right now the bulk of my characters, Alliance and Horde are on the Kael’thas server US, and I’m a happy member of one of the most down-to-earth guilds ever. We play when we want to play and Real Life commitments come first. Raiding has dropped off of my radar, and most days my time is spent doing a Daily Heroic and leveling professions or alts for fun.
