Last night I hopped on Fohrbin again and popped into the random dungeon finder. after about 15 minutes, I got a group and ported into Oculus. Almost instantly the Tank and healer dropped group, so our DPS warrior switched himself to Tank and we rejoined the queue. Moments later a Shaman healer and a mage showed up and off we went.

For my first time in the instance, ever, it went pretty well. We had a death here or there, and onMage-Lort Urom we full wiped because it was 3 of our first time ever in the place and didn’t know about the teleport or the frost on the ground. Our overgeared Shaman healer told us to remember Sethekk Halls, and get behind a pillar when he ports. We pwned him.

We then got to the last boss. One Red drake. One green drake. Three amber drakes. Shaman of Pwn told us all what to do. and how to time it. OK. Sure. Got it.

77 Tank died with about 20% health left. I went next since my amber drake was kicking it’s ass. the other two amber drakes were next and then the healer, who almost beat the Dragon on his own from about 11%.  Next try we put the overgeared Shaman on the tanking drake and the 77 warrior stuck with his red drake as well. I continued to DPS and I guess it must have been my experience with EOE, because I found it all very easy and simple. We kicked that Dragon’s ass, and I finally got the Achievement for the Oculus. I even got a nice siny new DPS mace, which is pretty fail for Ret Pallies, but it’s more DPS than my old one, so I took it.

All in all, I’m not entirely sure WHY people didn’t like the place. Perhaps it is the fact that it got nerfed in 3.3, but I found that if you know the concepts, it is very very simple. I liked it and hope it comes up again in my randoms.

  1. I got Oculus for one of my random heroics the other day, and I have to say that I can definitely tell that it’s been nerfed. The Oculus was never *hard*, per say, just different, and it tended to throw people off, especially those who couldn’t adapt to the new drake skills very quickly. The heroic version was difficult enough that someone who didn’t know what they were doing could easily die or mess up the run (especially the last boss).

That being said, I’m not sure the nerf was 100% needed–however, I won’t complain, especially if people start not dropping out of random pugs.

Yeah, I got Oculus last night as a random dungeon. Part of me groaned as I’ve had so many poor experiences there. However, part of me rejoiced since (a) I heard it was nerfed into the ground, and (b) the 20-minute achievement (Make It Count) was the last one I needed for my red proto.

I was pretty skeptical we’d make it (especially since one member had never been in there before). Well, I can confirm that Blizzard took the nerf bat to it pretty hard. We made it pretty easily with plenty of time to spare, and I’ve got a shiney new proto for our efforts.

I have to entirely agree with Brandon Tilley on this one – it wasn’t overly hard before, just unforgiving to those who couldn’t adapt to the drakes quickly. But like you said, at least the nerfs should reduce the number of people bailing out before even trying.

I always liked Occ even before the nerfs. I joined an achievement hunting team early on and after seeing how they handled the drakes and the pathways though the place to avoid aggroing most mobs it became very easy. Can’t wait now that its going to be “randomized” more often.
